Detailed Drawing

Drawing of strip used in all examples

The Designer has not specified how the strip is to be made and with what kind of machinery. If special surface finishes are required they would be shown on the drawing.

The drawing specifies the quality of the Mild Steel by the EN number. This is an European Standard. It is important as the wrong type may be too hard to drill or bend.

The length of the raw material is specified so this can be checked on delivery. If it is wrong, then it might not be possible to cut sufficient strips.
The length of each strip is specified as a nominal 100mm with a tolerance of ±1mm. The aceptable dimensions are between 99 and 101mm. This wide tolerance helps as it is difficult to cut accurately on a Power Hacksaw.
The distance of the first hole from the edge has a similar wide tolerance. This shows that the nominal 15mm is not a critical dimension.
NOTE the Pitch (distance between the centres) of the holes has a tight tolerance of ±0.01.
The φ5 diameter of the holes have no tolerance so a normal φ5 Twist Drill could be used.
The corners are spesified as R5, this means 5mm Radius. As no other corner is dimensioned, you assume that all corners are R5.
